Why Herbal Wellness Matters: Reconnecting with Nature for Mind, Body, and Spirit

It’s easy to feel disconnected from ourselves, from others, and from the natural world when we see all the darkness around us. We are surrounded by a plethora of distractions, overconsumption, intimidating technological advancements, and general uncertainty. What are we to do when we feel so disconnected from what really matters?

We start at our roots.

Reconnecting with nature is one of the most profound ways to restore balance to our lives, nurture our well-being, and awaken the best version of ourselves. Answering the call to connect with what's real and whole on this Earth was easy for me- once I allowed myself to hear it. There are several roads to nature, but plants and their majesty sang the loudest. Call me biased, but I truly believe plants (and their healing powers) are the biggest example of magic here on this planet. Working with herbs is a gift that anyone can receive. Within reasonable limitations, plants can heal every system in our bodies, and help us heal from the inside out. The tangible evidence of healing is great for our need for validation, but herbal wellness is more than just a health practice; it’s a journey into the heart of the Earth’s wisdom.

The Power of Plants

Plants have been our allies for centuries, offering their healing properties to support our health, soothe our spirits, and inspire our minds. From the comforting warmth of chamomile tea to the invigorating energy of peppermint, herbs provide gentle yet powerful tools to help us navigate life’s challenges.

Herbal remedies work in harmony with the body, offering holistic support that addresses not just physical symptoms but also emotional and spiritual well-being. This connection between mind, body, and spirit is the core of why herbal medicine is so important to me and this business.

My Journey with Herbal Wellness

The inspiration behind Sacred Spirit Herbals comes from my lifelong love of nature and a deep curiosity about how plants can heal. Growing up in the deep South, I spent countless hours playing beneath mimosa trees and experimenting with homemade “soups” made from leaves, flowers, and seed pods. Little did I know, those early moments of wonder would plant the seeds for a lifelong passion.

As I grew older, my path led me through many possible careers. I went through phases and obsessions of what I wanted to do with my life. After high school, I was dead-set on becoming an actor. I went to my local community college and fell in love with theatre, and I was successful enough to gain a scholarship to a highly praised university with an awesome theatre program. This, I later learned, was not my purpose. I fell in love and survived the beginning years of my adulthood with a variety of food service jobs followed by a cushy corporate job. Again, I thought this was my purpose, but the Universe was teaching me a valuable lesson. This job helped me gain many skills, which I am still using to this day, but the heartbreak from suddenly being laid off resulted in major life changes and a search for deeper meaning. I started to heal outside, followed by massive mental healing. I went through many pharmaceutical medications that made me question who I was, and I wanted to feel whole. I desired nature's wisdom. When I finally embraced my calling in herbal medicine, I felt like I had come home. Sacred Spirit Herbals is the culmination of that journey—a way to share the transformative power of plants with others while honoring the earth.

Reconnecting with Nature

Herbal wellness isn’t just about remedies; it’s about relationships. When we work with herbs, we’re not just using them—we’re partnering with them. This means understanding where they come from, how they grow, and the energy they carry.

Simple practices like brewing herbal tea, creating an herbal tincture, or using a botanical-infused oil can help us slow down and reconnect with the rhythms of nature. These small, intentional acts remind us that we’re part of a larger ecosystem, a circle of giving and receiving. Intention, as you'll come to find if you stick around long enough, is what I believe makes magic in this world.

Getting Started with Herbal Wellness

If you’re new to herbalism, here are three simple ways to incorporate herbs into your life:

  1. Sip Herbal Tea*: Start your morning or wind down your evening with a cup of herbal tea. Chamomile, peppermint, or lemon balm are excellent options for relaxation and gentle support.*

  2. Create an Herbal Bath*: Add dried herbs like lavender or rose petals to your bath for a soothing, aromatic experience that nurtures both body and spirit.*

  3. Try a Tincture*: Herbal tinctures are concentrated extracts that can be easily added to water or taken directly. They’re a convenient way to experience the benefits of herbs on the go.*
